ARTICLES: Brooklyn Bodega Festival – “Q-Tip and Friends”

Brooklyn Bodega is working closely with Q-Tip to create creative programming for this year’s Festival. Not just a headliner, Q-Tip will work with Brooklyn Bodega to curate “Q-Tip & Friends,” a celebration of Hip-Hop through the lense of his 20+ year career. Brooklyn Bodega will be working directly with Q-Tip to mine his personal rolodex and create once-in-a-lifetime live on stage collaborations to bless Brooklyn this Summer. Q-Tip & Friends will feature, amongst others, Diamond District and Ali Shaheed Muhammed.

Q-Tip embodies the mission of The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival and Brooklyn Bodega: highlighting Hip-Hop’s legacy as an agent of artistic progression, community building and social change. As an artist, MC and producer, Q-Tip is Hip-Hop with a career that connects generations of fans as well as artists.
“This is going to be a memorable event. Q-Tip and A Tribe Called Quest have been personal favorites of mine since day one. We were lucky enough to have De La Soul headline in 2010, this is the perfect one-two punch. The curation aspect is truly unique. It combines education, a dope show and a celebration of Hip-Hop music and culture. Exactly what we are about at Brooklyn Bodega. We hope to install this format for years to come and continue to celebrate the best of Hip-Hop. ”

ARTICLE: DMX To Maybach Music Group????

DMX has revealed that Rick Ross reached out to him while behind bars showing interest in signing the gruff MC to his Maybach Music Group imprint. Speaking with VIBE.com, Dark Man X explained that Rawse’s people sent a letter to him in prison with the intention of getting him on the label.

“Rick Ross’ peoples wrote me a letter while I was in here,” he said. “Yeah like ‘Yo we got a home for you. We’ll pick you up in a limo. Just come to Miami. Just come, we got you.’”

X is considering their offer, but is afraid of getting tangled up in Ross’ Illuminati affiliation. “I’m thinking about it. It was a good feeling. I respect him as an artist, and I would like to work with him. But he got the whole Illuminati thing going on. I got fans who write me like ‘I’m glad you’re not a part of that.’ And I don’t know what it’s really about entirely. So it might be like a good thing.”

As of now, he’s up for a collaboration with Ross, but is lukewarm on the MMG deal. “Yeah. I have respect for him and he expressed interest that he wanted to work with me while I was out. So I definitely want do a song with him, but I don’t know about the record label thing. I would have to see what his camp is like and feel people out. I’m not the average artist.” hiphopdx

MUSIC NEWS: Snoop Dogg Wants To Make a “HipHop X-Factor”

Snoop Dogg, citing the success of televised musical talent contests, has revealed plans to produce a hip-hop version of The X Factor. Saying that The X Factor and American Idol are “great shows,” Snoop wants to create a version with a little more street savvy and find hip-hop’s next big star.

“I’m looking for a deal from a network to find America’s hottest hood artists,” Snoop said at a London press conference flanked by smoke and pole dancers, adding that he hopes to make the show “straight directed to the hood… at people with no money, just talent.”

In the UK to perform a show in support of his recent Doggumentary album, Snoop also teased an idea to start a supermarket chain (called “Snoopermarkets,” of course) and basked in the glory of some recent acting success.

Snoop recently appeared in a cameo role in the Antonio Banderas movie The Big Bang. The film opened last Friday (May 20) and is currently in theaters. —Carter Maness
